The Crimson White is the student-run, editorially independent newspaper at The University of Alabama. First published in 1894, The Crimson White celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2024. The paper is named for the school colors of the University. The newspaper was originally a weekly publication, but eventually grew to a four-day-a-week print schedule by the 1980s. In 2015, the CW moved to a twice-weekly print format. Regular print publications ceased with the onset of COVID-19 in March 2020. The publication shifted to twice weekly email newsletters with special print editions being published about eight times each year, before transitioning again in 2025 to its current print schedule of four print editions per school year and one at the beginning of the summer. The Crimson White has won countless awards over the years, including the Associated Collegiate Press’ Pacemaker Award in 1977, 2015, and 2019, the highest award in collegiate journalism. The Crimson White is housed within the Office of Student Media at The University of Alabama, which is now located at 176 Hackberry Lane in the former Riverside Residential-Commons building. The Daily Californian is an independent, student-run newspaper serving the UC Berkeley campus and the Berkeley, CA community. It publishes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the academic year and once a week during the summer. Established in 1871, The Daily Californian is one of the oldest newspapers on the West Coast and one of the oldest college newspapers in the country. Daily Cal staffers have the unique opportunity of gaining daily metro news experience in the city of Berkeley, and is one of the few campus newspapers in the country that is completely independent from the university it covers. The Daily Cal supports itself entirely from advertising revenue and does not receive any form of financial support from the university or the Associated Students of the University of California. The Daily Cal is run entirely by current or recently-graduated UC Berkeley students, and the majority of the business division of the newspaper is student-operated as well. It is published by the Independent Berkeley Students Publishing Company, Inc.

The Michigan Daily, the campus newspaper of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, published its first issue on Sept. 29, 1890. The student-run paper is published Monday through Friday during the fall and winter terms. During the spring and summer terms, it is published weekly. The newspaper, which is financially independent from the University, is based in the recently renovated Stanford Lipsey Student Publications Building at 420 Maynard St. in Ann Arbor. The renovations, made possible by a gift from alum and Buffalo News publisher Stanford Lipsey, updated the building by adding handicap access, air-conditioning and other amenities while retaining its historic features. The Daily covers the University's campus, administration, sports teams, faculty and culture as well as the town of Ann Arbor and other topics that affect the lives of students. Alumni include playwright Arthur Miller, two-time presidential candidate Thomas Dewey, activist Tom Hayden and investment banker Bruce Wasserstein. Its former editors, reporters, photographers, business staff members and other alumni have gone on to work at publications like the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Time magazine, The Associated Press and countless other media outlets.
