The First Ask is a Political Action Committee (PAC) committed to advancing the representation and influence of progressive women in state legislatures across the nation. The First Ask’s mission is to identify, enlist, and launch progressive women running for State Legislature seats across the country. Women make up 51% of the US population, but only 32% of State House members nationwide. By empowering women to run in key states, we will fight for equal opportunity and representation in local and state legislatures nationwide. With much of the dangerous legislation limiting reproductive freedom, attacking our public schools, and directly harming our democracy coming from state bodies we have seen Democratic women in State Legislatures lead the fight to block efforts that threaten the safety of our community. The First Ask understands the invaluable perspectives and experiences that women bring to the decision-making table, and we are determined to break down barriers that stand in their way.
