The Gauteng Department of Education is a provincial government department under the Gauteng Provincial Government responsible for overseeing and regulating the basic education system in the Gauteng province of South Africa in accordance with the South African Schools Act of 1996.
The Gauteng Department of Education is committed to fostering academic excellence and holistic development among all learners in the region. Our vision is to equip students with the values, knowledge, skills, and certifications necessary for their success in adulthood. Our mission is centered on facilitating consistent and high-quality learning experiences within classrooms on a daily basis.
Aligned with this vision and mission, our strategic objectives encompass the establishment of effective educational institutions across Gauteng, the provision of relevant and coordinated support services, facilitation of smooth transitions for young individuals from school to further education or vocational opportunities, and the cultivation of strong partnerships with stakeholders. Through these efforts, we aim to elevate the status of education as a societal priority.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Nigeria mobilizes scientific and technical expertise from academia, civil society, and the private sector to support practical problem solving for sustainable development at local, national, and global scales. The SDSN has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary‐General. The SDSN is building national and regional networks of knowledge institutions, solution‐focused thematic networks, and the SDG Academy, an online university for sustainable development.
