Argus Leader Media doesn't just cover our community; we're a part of it. That's why we believe the role of the Argus Leader involves more than reporting the news. From raising funds that help at-risk children and families to sponsoring local events, our commitment is to improve areas where we live and work. Argus Leader Media and the Argus Leader Media Foundation annually provide thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of volunteer time to assist needy families and nonprofit organizations through three main channels: Gannett Foundation: A philanthropic foundation sponsored by Gannett, the Gannett Foundation supports non-profit activities in Sioux Falls and other communities in which Gannett does business. In 2013, the Gannett Foundation made grants and matching employee donations to non-profits for a total of $6.6 million. Make A Difference Day: Millions of people and many businesses come together on the fourth Saturday in October to participate in Make A Difference Day. It is the largest national day of helping others and is sponsored by Gannett's USA WEEKEND and its carrier newspapers, including the Argus Leader . Each year, Argus Leader Media employees and their family members volunteer on a common initiative to help our neighbors in need. Lend-A-Hand: For the past 15 years, the Argus Leader Media Foundation and individual community donations have supported the Lend-A-Hand holiday season fundraising campaign to support local businesses and organizations in need. The fund has awarded nearly $1 million to assist such organizations as the Children's Inn, the Teddy Bear Den, Feeding South Dakota's Backpack program and many other groups.
