Arctic Refrigeration was started in 1973 by two brothers, Bruce & Terry Spencer, who came to Madisonville from Northern Illinois. During Thanksgiving weekend of 2008, Arctic moved from its address at 1395 Briarwood to the newly built office at 1520 Island Ford Road. On April 1st, 2009 Bruce and Terry retired selling the business to Terry's oldest son Aaron Spencer and long time Arctic partner Jeff McKnight. During that year, Arctic converted from a partnership to an LLC and adopted the name Arctic Refrigeration & Foodservice Equipment LLC to better reflect the scope of the business.
