The Carefree Foundation Information

The Carefree Foundation was founded by Douglas Burka in 2003 with two primary objectives. First and foremost, it is our goal to eliminate the social, geographic, and economic barriers which limit people's access to quality medical care. We believe that all people deserve access to high-quality care, regardless of their social or financial situations. Through projects such as Project African Vision, we hope to provide surgeries and other medical treatments by either bringing people to medical facilities or by bringing medical personnel and treatment facilities to the people. Ultimately, it is our goal to open a free hospital or even a network of free hospitals which will provide top-quality medical care to patients, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. However, it is not simply the availability of care with which we are concerned. Our second primary objective is to help improve the environments in which treatment is rendered. By improving the environment of care - by helping facilities become clean, bright, and cheerful - we hope to inspire confidence and hope in both patients receiving treatment and their families and loved ones. Through projects such as our Project Clinic Restoration, we hope to provide the materials, time, and labor to help improve the treatment environments, which will ultimately enable physicians and staff to concentrate fully on providing quality patient care.
