The (BoP) Project travels far and wide to discover, document and share stories of remarkable social entrepreneurs, enterprises and innovations that are redefining poverty alleviation. Through visual journalism, The (BoP) Project seeks to teach people about the growing social enterprise movement and the viable alternatives to traditional aid. In addition to covering these stories on The (BoP) Project blog and producing with a full photo-journalistic piece, The (BoP Project) will be contributing to various blogs, publications, websites, and organizations dealing with these issues along the way. The Founder/ Photojournalist: Jonathan Kalan is an award-winning photographer, journalist, writer and consultant specializing in innovation, technology, startups and social entrepreneurship in emerging markets. Mr. Kalan has years of experience in over 55 countries, working with NGOs, social enterprises, technology startups and media companies in multiple capacities and roles. Over his career, Jonathan's work has been published in Foreign Policy Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Associated Press, The Guardian, BBC, Al Jazeera The Financial Times, The Boston Globe, NPR, NextBillion, The Toronto Star, The Huffington Post, Think Africa Press, Global Post, and The Christian Science Monitor among others. Before The (BoP) Project, Jonathan was pioneering the new industry of Mobile Fundraising and running a blog on Social Entrepreneurship/CSR/Cause Marketing, as Manager of Mobile Fundraising & CSR with a growing startup company called CAUSECAST. After an incredible experience working at the intersection of nonprofit and for-profit worlds developing campaigns, technology, platforms and media, he decided to take a short break to follow his dreams.
