The Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology was founded in 1980 as a non-political organisation to serve the interests of practising winemakers and viticulturists by encouraging the exchange of technical information. The Society has held over 40 one-day seminars since it was established and, in conjunction with The Australian Wine Research Institute, organises the Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference every three years. The Society has awarded over 20 scholarships for research and international study visits. Our membership now exceeds 700 individuals and affiliated companies. Activities of the Society Since its formation the major achievements of the Society have been: Organisation and conduct of over 40 one-day seminars on specialised topics in viticulture and oenology; Organisation and conduct of the triennial Australian Wine Industry Technical Conferences in 1983, 1986, 1989, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2004 in association with The Australian Wine Research Institute; Publication of proceedings of the one-day seminars and triennial Conferences; Support for the production and publication of Viticulture Volumes I and II. Publication of the Society’s scientific journal – Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research Publication of a newsletter providing information on ASVO activities and seminars, information of professional interest to oenologists and viticulturists and an international calendar of events.
