The Argument champions abundance over scarcity, evidence over orthodoxy, and meaningful engagement across differences. This magazine will uphold, not attack, the foundations of liberal America – its market economy, its universities, its pro-growth optimism – from the left. Instead, we will argue for a liberalism that builds, that considers how the future can be richer and more free than the past. Our pages will address America's most critical challenges: democratic resilience, technological transformation, economic opportunity, racial equality, and the complex relationships between genders and generations. Liberalism is not restricted to those on the left, but we do believe it is concentrated among those who are committed to human progress, to the inherent value in the life of every person, and who are committed to building a pluralistic world, where it is possible to live in peace near people with whom you have fundamental disagreements.
