Texas Vet Lab was established by Dr. W.H. (Bill) and Patsy Wohler in 1977. Dr. Wohler's goal was to develop and create improved biologics for the stocker/feeder calf segment of the beef industry. Texas Vet Lab was incorporated and licensed by the State of Texas in 1977 and the production facility received full licensure by the USDA in 1981. The vaccine line started with the development of Poly-Bac B for pneumonia/shipping fever in young feeder calves. This was the first Mannheimia (Pasteurella) Haemolytica containing bacterin to be proven effective by the modern test methods in (calves). Over the past 30 years Texas Vet Lab has grown into a complete manufacturer of bovine biologicals with the primary focus being development of vaccines that provide immunity against existing and emerging diseases that affect stocker/feeder cattle. Currently, Texas Vet Lab is the only company to incorporate the more virulent Mannheimia Haemolytica Type A6 with the more prevalent A1 in a full licensed product. This is the Super Poly-Bac line of products. According to diagnostic surveys, MH type A6 has been reported to be the cause of approximately 20-30% of all MH pneumonias. TVL has demonstrated, by host animal challenge, that the cross protection between MH A1 and MH A6 is limited. Therefore, establishing the importance of a vaccine to contain both serotypes. In 1999, TVL recognized the significance of Mycoplasma Bovis in feeder cattle, and became the first company to gain USDA approval for a full license Mycoplasma Bovis Bacterin. Through the 33+ years of business, Texas Vet Lab now offers unique combinations of killed and modified live vaccines aimed at improving the health of the stocker/feeder segment. In 2010 Texas Vet lab is working to launch novel products for the bovine and caprine segment. Future vaccines will be derivatives of these launches and further expand the product line offering. With the passing of Dr. Wohler in 2007, the business transitioned to the general management of Jim Bob Harris, with Patsy Wohler assuming the role of president. In December of 2009, Jim Bob Harris purchased the business and is now the sole owner/President of Texas Vet Lab. Mr. Harris began working for Dr. Wohler in 1980 and has served as the lab manager since 1984. Mr. Harris has a B.S. in Animal Science from Angelo State University and gained a M.S. degree in Veterinary Microbiology from Texas A&M University in 1989.
