The Tangential is a creative writing blog based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was started in January, 2011 by local writers Becky Lang, Jay Gabler and Katie Sisneros. It has no particular strategy other than to “write about whatever, as long as it doesn’t suck and isn’t boring.” The prompt is in the vein of McSweeney’s, The Awl and Thought Catalog, except it would be wrong to say that it is “a mix of all three,” because it is impossible to say something like that and not sound like a douchebag. If someone told you their band was a mix of The Flaming Lips, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, you would say, “Yeah, except 1,000 time worse.” So we will simply say our prompt is possibly in that same vein.
