With its mission, TeethFirst is also the driving force behind the shift towards Communities Embracing Oral Health. Founded by Dr Marielle Pariseau in January 2015, TeethFirst's mission is Making Oral Hygiene as Accessible as Hand Hygiene. Oral health is a fundamental human right and good oral health is a capital almost all are born with, but too often wasted for lack of access to effective prevention. Together we can change this by Making Oral Hygiene as Accessible as Hand Hygiene. True prevention is about blocking the factors that cause the disease. We need to confront Streptococcus Mutans relentless drive to survive and adapt with the proper tools. These tools don’t need to be high tech nor should they be harmful chemicals. All you need is to arm yourself with toothbrush and floss and make sure you clean your mouth after each meal. Think about it: do you wash your soiled dishes only every other meal or less? Do you clean only 60% of your dirty silverware? What would your kitchen smell like if you if you treated your dishes and silverware that way? But you put gooey, mushy, sticky foods in you mouth mixed in with sugary low pH liquids, wait until bedtime to brush and forget to floss… right? TeethFirst is an invitation for you to explore, individually and collectively, what you are willing to do to ensure that the mess you create inside our mouths with each meal gets cleaned effectively and in a timely fashion. Let’s free oral hygiene from the home bathroom and let its presence be seen everywhere food is offered. Oral health is a fundamental human right. TeethFirst and the ideas promoted within the TeethFirst Concept have earned Marielle a semi-finalist spot in the Global Health and Innovation Conference 2016 Prize.
