The Swaddle is a Mumbai-based digital media company that has, since its inception, combined critical thinking on South Asian culture, society, and history with innovation in storytelling formats and visual design. The year of its inception, the magazine was the first Indian publication to be a finalist for a Webby Award for Best Digital Magazine. Since then, we have built a unique identity in the podcast space, combining journalistic rigour with high production value to tackle themes ranging from Mumbai’s last surviving courtesans to K-pop fandom in India. Our podcasts are among the top 1% most shared podcasts on Spotify globally and have won critical acclaim, including multiple media awards. Our production team’s unique approach to social-first video brought together seasoned academics with experimental animators to convey complex information in fresh formats. Our original archive of over 100 videos that makes South Asian scholarship in gender, cultural studies and history, available in video format for the first time, has been used as a teaching tool in renowned universities in India and elsewhere. Our short documentary films have won us multiple grants from international impact organisations, including the Gates Foundation and Omidyar Network.
