To talk about where Team KATUSHA ALPECIN is today, it is worth taking a moment to consider where it came from. It is no secret that Team KATUSHA ALPECIN started with the backing of Mr. Igor Makarov, a former Olympic cyclist, successful businessman and member of the UCI Management Committee. What is less known is that Mr. Makarov does not see Team KATUSHA ALPECIN as a toy or a hobby and never has. Rather, Mr. Makarov’s signi cant investment in the team, and in cycling in general, has been aimed at developing the sport both in Russia and internationally. This ambition has culminated in a new and innovative approach in 2015: Team KATUSHA ALPECIN has become a truly global organisation with a multi directional business strategy. The Team’s long term and innovative plan seeks to enable it to generate revenue from alternative sources – speci cally premium cycling products and services. Whether through cycling clothing and apparel, cycling travelling events or cycling cafes, Team KATUSHA ALPECIN’s ultimate ambition is to develop a sustainable source of revenue and to further professionalise cycling. The strength of this new business model is obvious: the Team benefits from the high quality products and services of the KATUSHA businesses, and the businesses capitalise on the publicity and visibility generated by Team KATUSHA ALPECIN and its riders.
