When a young person struggles with mental health, families are often left asking, "Is this serious?" and "What's the best way we can help?" TEAM BE BETTER; bridges the gap between mental health awareness and navigation, before it becomes a crisis. Most families don’t need immediate treatment - they need a place to start for personalized support, trustworthy expertise, personalized education, and a path forward. TEAM BE BETTER; provides no-cost family-centered mental health support, education and advocacy for adolescents, young adults, and student-athletes. We offer consultations, screenings, and partnerships with a developing provider network led by Dr. Michael Brashears. Research indicates that involving families in mental health care between the ages of 13 and 25 is the most effective way to enhance overall care and outcomes. The life-saving TEAM BE BETTER; was created by Jill and Steve Miskelley after losing their son Ian, a star University of Michigan swimmer, to suicide. Families experience a drastically different level of access when supporting their child through physical illness compared to mental illness. Ian’s journey inspired the Miskelleys to build the resource they needed to feel seen and heard, and to help others navigate lifelong mental well-being.
