Orangeburg, founded as a township in 1730, became home to a colony of immigrants along the banks of the Edisto River. Orangeburg was a major center of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s and continues to be the home of two Historically Black Colleges, Claflin University, and South Carolina State University as well as Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. Tea Thyme is located at 1122 Church Street on the historic square, and is in close proximity to both historic colleges, the Edisto Memorial gardens, and the Edisto River, the one of the longest free flowing blackwater rivers in North America. Enjoy some tea, pick up some spices, and take a stroll along the riverwalk less than a mile away!
