T.A.R.P. Inc. Center for Independent Living, is an IRS 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit, non-residential, charitable organization directed and staffed by individuals with disabilities, working to promote the dignity, independence and civil rights of Tennesseans with disabilities. Our goal is to offer cross-disability services, the promotion of active citizenship and working with others to create services that support self-determination and full participation in community life. Founded in 2005. TARP is the first truly Rural -based Center in Tennessee, serving Eight Counties in Northwest and North-Middle Tennessee including: Benton, Dickson, Henry, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Stewart and Weakley Counties Staff and Board of Directors: 51% of Board of Directors are persons with significant disabilities. The ADA defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability.
