Islamic Relief is a faith-based relief and development agency working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
Established in 1984, we now work in over 45 countries assisting individuals, families and communities through emergency response and development projects that typically help over 10 million people each year.
The global Islamic Relief family includes national offices, affiliated partners and field offices. We also own a subsidiary company which raises funds for our work by recycling clothing.
Our work
Our projects provide poor people with access to vital services. We tackle the root causes of poverty. We protect communities from disasters, and deliver life-saving emergency aid. We also provide lasting routes out of poverty, and empower vulnerable people to transform their lives and their communities.
Islamic Relief is also a policy leader on Islamic humanitarianism, and our research programmes develop distinctive, practical approaches to the key issues that are affecting our world today.
Our mission
Islamic Relief envisages a caring world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled and people respond as one to the suffering of others.

In 1993, a community in Nottingham, moved by the devastation of the Bosnian war, sprang into action. A small group of volunteers began collecting money, clothes and medicine for the people of Bosnia.
Muslim Hands, an international aid agency and NGO, grew from this grass roots movement and since these first efforts, we have responded to countless more emergencies, as well as establishing long term projects such as schools, healthcare clinics and livelihood programmes worldwide.
We are working in over 50 countries and have field offices in over 30 of these. By working closely with our partners and offices on the ground, we are able to distribute aid in an effective, efficient, transparent and wholly accountable manner and to make a lasting difference to the communities we work with.
Dedicated to tackling the root causes of poverty around the world, Muslim Hands is passionate about working beyond the provision of immediate relief, towards supporting communities over the long-term.
