TakaTaka Zero Information

Taka Taka Zero is a Community-led waste conversion project that is rethinking the concept of zero-waste. Based in the slums of Nairobi, we harness the power of the Community Cooker, to take non-recyclable waste off the streets of low income areas and convert it to energy in a safe and sustainable outdoor stove which incinerates at 800-1200 degrees and reaches 95% combustion efficiency. This cooker is run by local youths, who receive vital training in waste management and skills for future employment. To date we have collected 30 tonnes of waste, saved the equivalent of 97 tonnes of CO2 and upskilled 12 youths. We are handing the power back to the community to create long term social and environmental impact through behaviour change. Our goal: cleaner communities, empowered youths and food secure families.
