In 1994, Synchronous Systems designed it's first DA-88 interface. An interface to control the time code generator of the DA-88 when striping. This design was licensed to and manufactured by Turn Up Communications as their SAS-202, a device that opened the post-production world to the DA-88. The other barrier to wide acceptance of the DA-88 in the post-production industry was it's use in the increasingly automated recording systems on the typical stage. The demand for a solution to this problem was the reason Paul Key left his position as Director of Engineering for EFX Systems and turn Synchronous Systems into a full time venture. In late 1995 the first PRI-88's were installed at Universal Studios just in time for the mix of Waterworld (in fact, 2 am the night before!). Immediately the PRI-88 interface became one of the hottest devices in Hollywood, in use on the Dub stages and ADR/Foley Studios of some of the biggest names in Post production. Since then the family has grown to include transport and record interfaces for machines using the DA-88 protocol, Sony's 9 pin RS-422 protocol, and recently the new crop of hard disk recorders which use MIDI Machine Control. In addition to a large catalog of off the shelf interfaces, Synchronous Systems has increasingly become the company to call on for custom interfaces, with machine control routing systems, PEC/Direct systems and ADR/Foley and other looping systems installed in several facilities. Synchronous Systems has established itself as the premier provider of machine control products in the audio post-production industry. In a world where the ability to differentiate your stage increasingly relies on your ability to automate the control of serial machines, Synchronous Systems has the knowledge and the technology to provide solutions for the facilities of the new millenium.
