Swissloop Tunneling Information

Tunnels of tomorrow won't be dug by giant machines alone. They'll be built by fast, agile, autonomous robots. We're developing them today. Swissloop Tunneling is a student team from ETH Zurich and other Swiss universities developing tunnel boring machines and underground robotics. Since 2020, more than 100 students from engineering and business have built our Groundhog machines and taken them to The Boring Company's Not-a-Boring Competition, where we have won the Innovation Award twice and the Champion Award in 2024. Right now, we are preparing Groundhog Gamma for NABC27. At the same time, we have kicked off Project Marmot: a smaller, faster and more agile TBM, designed for tight turning radii and autonomous operation. With Marmot, we are moving from building tunnels to building robots that can navigate underground on their own. We work out of the Innovation Park Zurich in Dübendorf and are supported by industry partners who share our vision of a better tunneling industry.
