Our Mission The core mission of SwarmAG is to help Maine farmers utilize available technologies to further enhance and improve their farming operations. We primarily focus on the implementation of specialized sUAS (small unmanned aerial systems, or “drones”) used for remote sensing in concert with proprietary software systems used for agricultural data analysis. The SwarmAG Solution An agriculture drone has many scientific and technical merits. Compared to traditional ground-truthing methods and satellite technology, a single UAS can perform a photo survey of several hundred acres quickly, on demand. Using near-infrared images taken by the drone, GIS software can produce a variety of NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) maps. Our expert staff work with growers to utilize these NDVI maps to identify problem areas quickly and apply an agronomic prescription. Going a step further, the goal of the prototype application we aim to develop will bring to light many attributes in crop development stages that cannot be utilized at present due to technical limitations. Using drones for field scouting and surveying and our software application for data analysis and analytics will be an important innovation to the Maine agriculture industry.
