Swale Safe Information

The purpose of Swale Safe is to help prevent crime and work with the business community, Kent Police and Swale Borough Council. We aim to promote a safer environment and to inspire confidence by reducing the fear of crime for those who visit, live, work and invest in our towns and villages. The radio system is a known deterrent. For example, two well known, repeat offenders entered a shop as a message was being transmitted over the radio. They heard the familiar transmission signal and one was heard to say to the other "This is no good, they have one of those radios here" and swiftly left! This prevented the shopkeeper from losing stock or having to deal with an unpleasant incident. The operator was also able to broadcast the description of the couple, enabling other businesses to monitor their movements, as could the police and cctv, in order to prevent crime in other premises. Swale Safe is also part of the night time economy and the aim is to prevent anti-social behaviour, not only in individual premises but also within the town centres themselves, so that socialising can be enjoyed by all ages without dread of violence or crime, whatever the time of day or night.
