Surfacedesign, Inc. is a landscape architecture firm based in San Francisco, California. Principals James A. Lord, Roderick Wyllie, and Geoff di Girolamo, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of landscape architects, urban designers and architects, provide innovative design solutions for a wide range of projects. Recipient of the 2017 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Landscape Architecture, Surfacedesign is dedicated to designing outdoor spaces that connect people and their natural environment. In addition to creating residential gardens, Surfacedesign’s projects include public parks, urban plazas, waterfronts, wineries, and hotels and resorts. Surfacedesign | Material Landscapes, a book on the firm’s body of work thus far, was published by Monacelli Press in 2019.
