GrowingGreat
As a pioneer in school garden programs in Los Angeles since 1999, GrowingGreat has reached hundreds of thousands of children and their families with hands-on nutrition, garden, STEM and literacy education. We offer programs from preschool to high school, in Spanish and English, during and after school, and always with the opportunity to enjoy fresh, healthy foods. We are committed to low-income families in our cement-covered city where a school garden may be a child’s only experience with living, growing things. That commitment has grown stronger through our virtual programs to support parents and children learning at home as a result of Covid-19. Since 2019, we have extended our programs to thousands more children nationwide through the GrowingGreat Veggies & Fruits program, sponsored by Del Monte Foods and implemented at science centers, children’s museums and zoos. We believe every community, regardless of economic status, should have access to fresh produce, and all children should experience the joy of growing fruit and vegetables in their own garden.

Veggiecation
Mission: It is the mission of Veggiecation to promote and education the health benefits of vegetables and how to prepare them in simple, unique, affordable, and most importantly, delicious ways. Veggiecation was founded in 2009 by Lisa Suriano. After working in the school food industry for many years, Lisa saw a need to incorporate nutrition education in elementary schools. She originally developed the program to help teachers incorporate vegetable education into their existing curriculum. However, over the years Veggiecation’s goals and methods have evolved to bring nutrition education to communities outside of the traditional classroom setting. Lisa recognized a great need to develop culinary skills and hands-on experiences with fresh produce. As a result, she created an effective and fun method to teach children and families to cook simple, unique and affordable recipes to enjoy together. As the demand for these lessons grew, Lisa decided that Veggiecation would have an even wider impact if she could empower other passionate individuals to conduct their own Veggiecation programs in communities across the country. Thus, growing the Veggiecator Nation! Currently, Veggiecation has school programming in 30 states and Canada, as well as active Veggiecator’s all over the nation. Through regional partnerships with Whole Foods Market and HealthFirst Insurance we are also able to “veggiecate” a variety of groups in grocery stores, hospitals and community centers.
