Studio Ectypos - WBE certificate #W2F9321733 We began Studio Ectypos as a design collaborative in 2001 with a multi-cultural interdisciplinary perspective that lends depth to all of our projects; innovative thinking that leads to creative design solutions; and broad European design experience and an international practice which keeps our minds open. We are a collaborative because making space requires the input of many. We have a reputation for successfully working together with other design professionals, construction trades, artists and craftspeople, and municipalities. We maintain a consistent process of attention to the needs and objectives of the client, deep site analysis, a proficient and open design approach, and efficient project management. Our work is comprehensive from the smallest detail to the broadest vision. Working in Europe, where every site has a long history, instilled in us the importance of context. We evaluate each project's relationship to its specific site and surroundings. We distill the essence of contextual relationships necessary in providing continuity to a place. This is done through a deep understanding of the nature of the locale: historically, urbanistically, environmentally, and culturally and not through the superficial application of style. Our projects reflect a strong commitment to stewardship doing much more with less: building only what is needed in a compact footprint; a tight energy efficient envelope; maximizing use of passive opportunities: natural light, ventilation, heating & cooling; minimizing impact to existing native flora and fauna and responding to the hydrology of the site. With all our projects, site and building have a symbiotic relationship: sometimes they are shaped together; other times the building is nestled into an already well defined site. Our work is responsive to our clients’ objectives; environmentally restorative and culturally relevant.
