Erie County is governed under a "home rule" charter which separates legislative and executive functions. County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, elected to a four-year term, is the chief executive officer of the county. The County Legislature is the county's governing body, consisting of 11 members elected to two-year terms. Other elected positions are Comptroller, Clerk, District Attorney, and Sheriff. Erie County government employs over 5,600 individuals and has an annual budget of $1.45 billion. Erie County administers vital public services, provides law enforcement and maintains public infrastructure for its roughly one million residents. The Erie County Executive is Mark C.
