Step Up Tutoring Information

Step Up Tutoring is a tech-powered nonprofit delivering high-impact virtual tutoring to students in under-resourced communities. Since launching in 2020 in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District, we've provided over 180,000 hours of free, 1:1 tutoring to more than 5,000 students across California, Arizona, and New York. Our trained tutors—volunteers, college students paid through Federal Work-Study, and aspiring educators—build strong relationships with students while helping them strengthen foundational skills in math and literacy, using science of reading-aligned curriculum and research-based instructional strategies. We partner with public school systems and community organizations to reach the students who need tutoring most, using a model focused on consistency, personalized support, and academic growth. By integrating smart technology with human connection, Step Up is creating a scalable model to close opportunity gaps. We are expanding our impact through AI-powered tools that enhance tutor effectiveness and student outcomes—building toward a national tutoring corps that unlocks learning for every child.
