Start Writing Information

Start Writing hosts small group, in-person creative writing workshops for artists of all levels. All sessions are held in downtown Toronto and utilize the AWA method to ensure that the teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writers original voice or artistic self-esteem. I have worked as a freelance copywriter for the past 20 years, mostly with global brands in the consumer technology and financial services sectors. Most of my output falls under corporate communications. In April 2008 I completed a training program to become an AWA Writing Workshop Leader, and have been leading my own creative writing workshops since 2009. I was the editor / founder of Sterling, Start Writing's literary journal, and have helped bring 11 titles to market as an editor or coach. I was an Executive Producer of Color Me Obsessed , a feature documentary about the last best band, The Replacements. If you find yourself stuck somewhere along the creative journey, don't fret. It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong. It's more likely you are taking in the same scenery as everyone else who has attempted to breathe life into an idea. You're always welcome to get in touch. Since I adopted Milo in 2014, he has been a regular fixture at workshop sessions. His patient demeanour earned him the title of co-facilitator. Recent venues havent been very dog friendly however, and Milos teaching days are likely behind him. He is otherwise doing well and sends his regards. He begs you not to use fireworks.
