Shika is a UK registered charity aiming to create opportunities for the poorest people in Tanzania through access to education and trade.
Our vision is an equal world where everyone has access to a quality education. Since we first launched in 2007 we have achieved the following to support this vision:
Created a sustainable education sponsorship programme supporting nearly 100 vulnerable children and young people
Established the Shika After School Programme, a successful holistic after school initiative that provided support to 85 primary school children, a model we would like to role out in other schools.
Developed the Shika Education Support Programme, an educational support ackage building on the after school programme, assisting the same 85 vulnerable students as they progress through secondary school.
Developed the Secondary School Graduate Programme to assist Shika graduates to access vocational training opportunities, prepare for and be supported to find suitable employment when they leave school.
Launched our own fair trade fashion label – ‘Shika Fashion Label’, a social enterprise working with a small group of disadvantaged women who produce on-trend fashion for sale in the UK. All the profits support our educational programmes

Harambee Schools Kenya (HSK) is a UK based charity that supports and empowers communities through education in rural Kenya.
Building and renovating school buildings and helping to maintain a quality education through the provision of school infrastructure, school lunches, desks, teacher training, student bursary schemes, water harvesting, sanitation and teaching materials.
The Educational Frontier Trust (TEFT) is a UK registered charity which supports children's education for marginalised and vulnerable communities in northern Kenya, in particular pastoralist communities. TEFT supports Kisima Trust, a Kenyan charity working with people mainly from northern Kenya, in particular pastoralist communities. Northern Kenya experiences recurrent drought, banditry, violent conflict and has virtually no public services. High percentages of the population are illiterate and depend on relief aid for survival. The project is Kenyan-inspired and Kenyan-led and, through high quality education, aims to help young people become more self-determining and steer themselves out of dependence and marginalisation. The aspiration of Kisima Trust and TEFT is that many of these young people will return to live and work in their home communities, bringing knowledge, confidence and resilience to decision-making about issues that really matter to them. TEFT raises funds to support Kisima School, a residential mixed secondary school for 160 children, 80 boys and 80 girls, and works closely with its management staff. Although they have common aims TEFT and Kisima Trust are independent organisations. TEFT holds Kisima Trust accountable for the grants and funding it receives from TEFT. The Trustees of TEFT meet regularly to review the grants made to Kisima Trust and to plan and manage its UK-based fundraising activities.
