We at St. Thomas are driven by a vision of a church drawn from the unique, diverse group of multicultural immigrants and secular professionals that have been making their home in the Firewheel area of Dallas. Pastor Saji lives in this area, as do several friends who share this vision. As Christians living in such a newly diverse area, we cannot help but long for a church that reflects our neighborhood. Two Biblical reasons make us look forward to this vision. First, Jesus prays to His Father in the Gospel of John for believers: “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you”. The result of this unity-in-diversity is “so that the world may believe.” Loving unity is a cause for the world to believe. Second, the Book of Revelation paints us a picture of what true heavenly worship will be: diverse people singing in unity “from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.” Pastor Saji recently had a conversation a Indian-American living in the Firewheel area. As Saji cast the vision for such a church, the man lit up, “Ahh, I get it. A church that looks like the Kingdom of Heaven.”
