Vision Statement The Ann Arbor District Library provides collections, programs, and leadership to promote the development of literate and informed citizens through open and equal access to cultural, intellectual, recreational, and information resources. Mission Statement The existence of the Ann Arbor District Library assures public ownership of print collections, digital resources, and gathering spaces for the citizens of the library district. We are committed to sustaining the value of public library services for the greater Ann Arbor community through the use of traditional and innovative technologies. The Ann Arbor District Library provides services at no charge to all residents living within the Ann Arbor District Library's service area. Library services are available to all others outside this service area for a fee. Over 8.8 million items have circulated system-wide during recent fiscal years. In addition to these items, thousands of people enter the library and its branches to utilize print and electronic reference resources, access the Internet through the Library’s fiber-optic connection, enjoy state-of-the-art Wi-fi service, participate in computer and Internet training, view a Library exhibit, or attend one of the Library’s many events. The Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) system is composed of the Downtown Library and four branch libraries: Malletts Creek, Traverwood, Westgate, and Pittsfield.

The Detroit Public Library (DPL) is the largest library system in the state of Michigan. The Main Library and its 23 neighborhood branches make it one of the most valuable and accessible public institutions in metropolitan Detroit. Currently, the Detroit Public Library consists of a Main Library with 10 subject departments and a number of collections. There are 23 branch libraries, and LOW, a bookmobile service for the community.

Within the Township borders, more than 73,000 Shelby Township residents enjoy access to championship public golf courses and more than 1,200 acres of first-class public parks, with hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails and access to the Clinton River, which connects the community to recreation opportunities throughout southeast Michigan. Shelby Township’s appreciation for and abundance of green spaces goes further than its parks, though. The Township’s residential neighborhoods are some of the most desirable in Macomb County, and their well-manicured, spacious lots and yards contribute to the Township’s place among the highest median home values in Macomb County. Local public schools operated by the Utica Community Schools district are among the top in the region, with 11 sites within the borders of Shelby Township.
