SRM360 is a non-profit knowledge broker dedicated to informing people about solar geoengineering so they can contribute to critical decisions about its research, development, and governance. Solar geoengineering – also known as sunlight reflection methods or solar radiation modification (SRM) – is a set of ideas to reflect a small fraction of incoming sunlight to cool the planet. SRM is not a solution to climate change, but it might help to reduce some of its devastating impacts while the essential work of decarbonisation accelerates. It would also introduce new risks and new uncertainties – and much more work is needed to understand them. The world faces critical decisions about SRM today – around its research, development, policy, and governance. These will require collaboration across many groups, in many places. Civil society, policymakers, media, think tanks, entrepreneurs, and funders all have a role to play, but many do not have the knowledge or tools they need to engage. SRM360 works with experts around the world to create content that helps people get informed and take part in society-wide discussions – in time to make a difference.
