The SCWA has operated a Salmon and Trout Hatchery in their 2,500 square foot log building located on the banks of the Nechako River since 1988 and operated 2 fish fences from 1994 - 2001 on the Salmon and Chilako Rivers. Ongoing projects include support of the Annual River's Day celebration at Fort George Park, Kids Fishing Pond, delivery of the Learn to Fish Program, Ferguson Lake and Shane Lake Enhancement Projects including installation of new fishing docks in association with the Freshwater Fishing Society of BC. With a 1,000 sq foot expansion to house hatchery operations, the SCWA building was renovated to accommodate the new Nechako-Fraser Natural Resource Stewardship Centre. It's goal is to facilitate collaboration, partnership building, education and conservation of our natural resources both regionally and provincially. This Centre allows for similarly minded groups and organizations to showcase their projects in the community working together to increase public awareness and provide user friendly access for the public to information through workshops, seminars, programs and use of computer stations and Internet access. The meeting room is used for school tours, discourses, instruction classes and meetings, not only for SCWA, but also for groups such as the PG Trappers Assoc, the PG Naturalists Club, the Polar Coachman Fly fishers, the UNBC Wildlife Club, the Bear Human Conflict Committee, the Omineca Region of the BC Wildlife Federation, the PG Riverboat Assoc, the PG Back country Recreation Society, Northwest Paddling Brigade, the Salmon Fishing Advisory Board, and the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Group. The Spruce City Wildlife Association would like to thank the community for supporting their endeavours. The funding for SCWA projects comes from membership dues and donations from various sponsors as well as fundraising through the annual Wild game Banquet and auction. None of these projects could be done without the support of sponsors, corporate and private, and the continuous fundraising efforts of the SCWA members.
