SpringWear is developing a suite of technologies that restore hand function for stroke survivors. Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, with 14 million new cases each year globally and 800,000 just in the US! A massive 62% of these survivors will have impairments of the hand, including the inability to open or close, as well as increased tightness. Building off of over 25 years of research out of the Center for Applied Biomechanics and Rehabilitation Research at The Catholic University of America, SpringWear is developing devices that are affordable, customizable, and can be used outside the clinic for home rehab practice. Initial clinical trials have seen immediate and long-term improvement in stroke patients. Led by a Mexican-American PhD with degrees in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering, the company is building a team of diverse PhD researchers, engineers, therapists, and specialists working to address this massive unmet need.
