Spring Speech Information

Chicago Myo is an orofacial myofunctional therapy practice for children and adults, founded by Amanda Ing, MHS, CCC-SLP. We see patients in person in Lincoln Park, Chicago, and by telehealth across Illinois. Myofunctional therapy retrains how the mouth rests, breathes, chews, and swallows. People come to us for mouth breathing and open-mouth resting posture, tongue thrust and atypical swallowing, tongue-tie function before and after a frenectomy, thumb and pacifier habits, jaw clenching and facial tension, picky eating and chewing difficulty in children, speech sounds that keep coming back after traditional speech therapy, and the muscle patterns behind orthodontic relapse. We also work on snoring and disrupted sleep alongside medical care. Therapy is provided by a licensed, ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist with advanced training in orofacial myofunctional therapy and in pediatric feeding. Those three areas overlap constantly in practice. A child who will not chew firmer textures, a lisp that returns after speech therapy, and a tongue that rests low in the mouth are often one underlying pattern seen from three directions, and they can be worked on together rather than split across three providers. That background also defines the limits of the work. Every patient begins with a comprehensive, scored functional evaluation, which is what shows whether a concern is muscular, structural, or medical, and when it belongs with another provider first. Most of what brings people here is downstream of how the mouth rests, breathes, and swallows. We work on that pattern directly rather than managing the symptom on the surface.
