SPORTS COMPLEX SPECIAL SERVICES DISTRICT Information

The Sports Complex Special Services District, or SCSSD for short, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that serves approximately 9,000 residents living in 4,100 households surrounding the Sports Complex venues in South Philadelphia. SCSSD is engaged in a mission to: Protect Community Interests Improve Neighborhood Quality of Life Promote Efficient Operation of Adjacent Sports Venues SCSSD was established in 2002 and began active operations in March of 2003. In 2001, the three sports venue operators - Comcast-Spectacor, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Philadelphia Eagles - committed a combined $1 million annual contribution (with annual CPI adjustment) to fully fund SCSSD efforts and address the unique needs of South Philadelphia residents living in close proximity to an active, world-class Sports Complex. SCSSD is the only such district in the nation created for community benefit and financed entirely by local sports teams. The Philadelphia Sports Complex includes three major venues with a combined capacity of over 132,000 seats. Home to Eagles football, Phillies baseball, Flyers hockey, and 76ers basketball to name a few, these venues host approximately 380 events, 8 million visitors, and 5.5 million vehicle trips each year. SCSSD includes four distinct Community Districts and serves the area bounded by Oregon Avenue to the north, 7th Street to the east, I-95 to the south, and 20th Street to the west. SCSSD is guided by a 20-member Board of Directors that includes elected community representatives, City and State officials, and sports venue executives. SCSSD is engaged in ongoing projects, programs, and studies to address neighborhood concerns and improve community quality of life. Areas of improvement include traffic and parking operations, street and sidewalk cleaning, tree care, landscape beautification, recreational facility upgrades, lighting enhancements, public safety initiatives and community events.
