The Portland Timbers are a professional soccer club based in Portland, Ore., and compete in Major League Soccer (MLS). On March 20, 2009, MLS awarded Portland the league’s 18th franchise, and the Timbers played their inaugural season in North America’s top-flight professional soccer league in 2011. The Timbers have been a beloved part of the Portland sports landscape since their early beginnings in the original North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1975, launching the era of “Soccer City USA” in the Rose City. Philadelphia Union is an American professional soccer club based in Philadelphia, PA and competes in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. The Union was established in February 2008 (16th club in the league) and is owned by Keystone Sports and Entertainment, LLC. The team plays their home matches at Subaru Park located on the banks of the Delaware River in Chester, PA.
