Suicide Prevention in Online Networks (SPON) works to improve online suicide prevention, with a particular focus of using recreational and informal websites as a system of care. What are our goals? SPON is focused on bringing and improving online support for suicidal people. Due to our small size, we seek to do what we can, knowing that not everything can will reach fruition. Our primary areas of interest are: 1. Increasing awareness of online suicide prevention needs, with a particular to peer and professional support networks in online communities. 2. Creating computer programs that will find suicidal people in online communities. 3. Connecting online suicide prevention providers to improve dialogue within the field. 4. Conducting research on suicide prevention in online communities. 5. Bringing friendly listeners to people in crisis on informal online forums. 6. Lobbying to add suicide prevention in online communities to the National Suicide Prevention Strategy.
