We founded Specify because we believed New Zealand’s design and construction industry deserved something better: real quality materials, transparent pricing, and genuine partnerships built on trust. Our paths crossed years ago while working together in the tile and surface materials industry. We quickly realised we shared the same values: a love for design, a respect for craftsmanship, and a frustration with how disconnected the market had become from the true value of materials. After years in the industry, from importing and retailing to managing distribution and specification, one question kept coming up: What would it really cost if clients could access the same products directly, without all the unnecessary layers in between? That question became the foundation of Specify. Today, we operate across two main areas: Distribution – We manage the exclusive distribution of premium retail products nationwide, working with trusted partners in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka, and Dunedin. Procurement – We offer a dedicated service for architects, designers, and developers to source porcelain tiles, natural stone, and large-format slabs (12 mm and 20 mm), all starting from landed cost for full transparency and better value.
