Construction loses two workers a day to suicide. That's not a statistic I read somewhere and decided to care about because we have lost close friends. SPEAK exists because of them. SPEAK was founded in 2023 as a mental health initiative built specifically for the construction industry and this was not by consultants parachuting in from the outside, but by people who understand how sites actually work, how men and women in this trade actually talk (or don't), and why the standard HR playbook falls short. Most companies treat wellbeing spend as a charitable line item but we treat it as infrastructure with: a) On-site peer support groups. b) Men's and women's circles. c) 24/7 WhatsApp access to real people. d) Mental health post boxes on every site which are mandatory, anonymous, and designed to make asking for help as routine as a toolbox talk. This also means the companies we work with retain more people, build stronger teams and win more contracts because clients and investors notice when a business actually gives a damn. Our vision is to be present on every construction site in the UK, giving workers a safe place to SPEAK, access support, and know they are not alone.
