Spartan Engineering Services LLC Information

Spartan Engineering Services was founded in August of 2014 by Howard D. Althen, PE. Born and raised in the Charleston area, Howard has been around construction his entire life. His dad owned a nationally recognized structural detailing company where Howard worked every summer since the age of 14 and after school for the entirety of his high school career. His dad taught him the art of detailing, and it truly is an art, as well as the value of honor and integrity in the construction industry. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, class of 1993, and a professional engineer since 2001, Howard has a broad range of structural engineering expertise and experience. He has served as design Engineer of Record (EOR) for a variety of projects including multi-story commercial buildings, single and multi-family residential structures, medical facilities, and remodel / renovation of historical structures. As a Connection Design EOR, Howard provided engineering services for large industrial structures (some with vertical brace design forces in excess of 6,000,000 pounds), large aircraft hangers for the United States Navy and large span trusses for sports arenas. Finally, Howard provided structural inspection, evaluation and repair / remodel services for a variety of structures including historical residential and commercial faculties, fire-damaged / moisture damaged buildings and structural failure. In 2014, Howard took a "leap of Faith", trusting in God to create a company built around integrity, honor and faith. Spartan Engineering was born and since our inception, we have design residential structures (most in excess of 4000 sq. ft), commercial structures and industrial components such as stack out conveyors and heavy trusses. We have also provided connection design services for multiple projects as well as commercial and structural inspection services.
