At South Shore, students learn that the world and everything in it belongs to God. As Christian educators we are called to "train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it. (Prov.22:6) We strive to help students see that God's plan of salvation is at work in every area of learning. We believe that all truth is God's domain. Our lessons integrate Biblical truth and it's our hope that all students come to a personal knowledge of God that guides all of their learning and all of their life. Our religious teaching is based on the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God, so that students develop knowledge of God at an early age, which will, in turn, promote the development of a godly character. This philosophy channels our energies into promoting high academic standards while helping students achieve skills in creative and critical thinking. Currently, our curriculum follows guidelines set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education, A Beka and ACSI resources. While our curriculum is under review, the objective of our instructional program is to prepare students for secondary education and beyond. At South Shore, our students enjoy close teacher involvement and improved learning opportunities in our small class sizes. For example, our new French program, called the AIM (Accelerative Integrated Methodology) program, is enthusiastically implemented by Madame Symons, and even more enthusiastically received by our Gr.3-8 students! Each day we begin as a whole group in Chapel with devotions, Bible stories and verses, music and prayer. Parents, grandparents and babies are our daily guests as we worship together! In class, Christian values are emphasized all day, as we teach students how to love and care for one another, using Jesus as an example. Bible class is taught daily to all grades - our focus is to honor God in all we do! At South Shore, we believe that parents are our children's first and best teachers. We work to cooperate closely with parents as our partners in every phase of our students' development, always offering assistance in addressing each child's unique learning style. It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child…along with our dedicated parents, we also have caring community volunteers assisting with reading groups, cooking and baking for food days, driving on field trips, assisting with the bell choir and art classes, monitoring children during recess and fundraising outside the school. Our extracurricular activities include cross-country running, coed soccer, basketball, floor hockey, track and field, baseball, chess club, Fundraising Kids' Club, talent show, JK - Gr.4 choir and Gr.5-8 choir. Thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers for running all our extracurricular activities! We're grateful that our talented Mrs. Turner volunteers to lead our Age 4 - Gr.4 choir, accompanied by our equally talented Madame Symons. Mrs. Turner is also our resident piano teacher. At South Shore, homeschool families have the option of enrolling on a part time basis. We strive to partner with families and work together to meet the educational needs of their children. Every family is different and every child has unique needs. We encourage you to meet with us and discuss what a unique part time enrollment schedule may look like for your family. We also welcome our homeschool children to join our school choirs. It is our expectation that our students develop a strong sense of responsibility to others, as witnessed by our outreach programs wherein students are involved with the Salvation Army food drive and Christmas basket preparation, Coats for Kids, Gleaners, Samaritan's Purse shoeboxes, Communities in Bloom clean-up, adopting our Compassion Child and singing for seniors. We are definitely making a positive impact not only in our community, but other parts of the world, as well! We believe that our students should recognize and use their God-given gifts and talents and become all that God intended them to be, as we are encouraged by our theme this year: "Yet, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.
