South Oakland County Soccer Information

South Oakland Soccer is helping enrich the lives of families and children in Guatemala, thousands of miles from its own soccer fields in metro Detroit. Over spring break 2012, 15 high school teens from The River Community Church of Hartland, Michigan traveled to Chichicastenango, Guatemala, to collaborate with Pray America / Manos de Jesus. The group helped build 8 homes for widows whose homes were lost to mudslides, participated in a feeding program that spiritually and physically feeds over 1,200 children and 250 widows each week, and installed 10 wood-burning stoves to provide families with a safe alternative for cooking and staying warm. Each member of the team traveled with an extra suitcase filled with donations from the community that were distributed to the widows and their families - everything from clothes to kitchen utensils to crafts for the little kids. South Oakland County Soccer donated numerous jerseys, shorts and balls. The River mission team would like to thank SOCS for its generous donation. Since soccer is the favorite pastime of the children of Guatemala, the uniforms and balls were a big hit! Each season, South Oakland County Soccer supports more than 1,200 players on 120 Premier Travel and Recreational teams, and sponsors fun and skill-building summer camp opportunities for children in the Detroit metro area. SOCS also runs an active Total Outreach Soccer Program, or TOPS, for children with special needs. In addition to regular league play, SOCS provides specialized professional training for recreational players through British Elite Soccer Training, a local soccer training organization, as well as small-group goalkeeper training.
