The city is surrounded by nature, where within an hour’s drive you can experience glaciers, waterfalls, lava canyons and other geological wonders. Iceland is located half way between North-America and Europe and is renowned for its approach towards sustainability, where 99% of all electricity in Iceland is generated from green, renewable energy.

The Democracy Collaborative focuses on the role community economic stability plays as an essential foundation of civic practice and democratic life. Our research, training, and action agenda centers on: * Community wealth building innovations and strategies * Programs designed to create individual and common assets for all Americans * The role anchor institutions (such as universities) can play in strengthening local economies

openDemocracy publishes high quality news analysis and opinion pieces on stories from across the world. Through reporting and analysis of social and political issues, we seek to: - educate citizens - challenge power and - encourage democratic debate across the world. With human rights as our central guiding focus, and open-mindedness as our method, we ask tough questions about freedom, justice and democracy. Established in 2001, openDemocracy is a non-profit federation comprising of the Main site and a number of editorially and financially independent Sections. We publish up to 60 articles a week and attract over 8 million visits per year.
