SolarFloat develops low-maintenance floating PV systems that support biodiversity and can reduce water evaporation. As a result, unused areas such as water basins, former sand extraction lakes and water storage sites are transformed into sources of renewable energy, making smart dual use of the available space. Low profile supports biodiversity SolarFloat’s patented PV system has a low profile, rising just 40 cm above the water surface. This helps preserve water health and aquatic life. The underwater structure blends into its surroundings and provides a substrate to which aquatic life can attach, helping to support biodiversity in the water. Efficient solar panel layout SolarFloat installs floating solar panels in an east-west configuration rather than a south-facing layout. The SolarFloat east-west configuration makes efficient use of the available surface area and delivers a higher yield per m². The east-west installation also significantly reduces wind load. This helps prevent large frequency fluctuations and associated faults that can reduce system efficiency. Maintenance-free PV system Both the solar panels and the supporting structure are designed for a service life of at least 30 years. The concrete floats require less frequent replacement and are maintenance-free. The supporting structure consists of a concrete pontoon that does not release microplastics into the water. About SolarFloat SolarFloat recently became part of Roelofs Groep. This step brings together our capacity for innovation and delivery expertise, enabling us to develop floating solar parks together. It allows us to contribute to affordable, sustainable energy on water more quickly, intelligently and at greater scale. Our mission is to build a more sustainable world by making solar energy simple. Our head office is located at Lindehof 12 in Steenwijk, where you can also find a test setup of our system. Feel free to visit us or take a look at: www.solarfloat.com.
