Solar Energy Foundation Information

The Solar Energy Foundation established the "International Solar Energy School" in Rema in the autumn of 2007. The long-term aim of the school is to promote the propagation of solar energy in Ethiopia. The most important course of the new school is the "Rural Solar Energy Technician" training course which is directed at electrical engineers. This training programme, which is unique in this form in Africa, consists of three modules: solar technology, management and practical application. The training staff come from Europe (technology sector) and Ethiopia (management sector). The aim of this training programme, which is especially orientated towards the needs of rural electrification, is to enable the participants to start up their own small solar businesses in the countryside. Technicians interested in the course are required to take a qualifying examination before they can start their training.
