Soilsmart manufacture and supply an innovative range of organic & biologically based products, designed to build plant & soil health by improving the balance of both minerals and microbes in the soil. This balancing approach enables us to optimise the health and productivity of plants grown in a wide variety of circumstances. It also allows us to genuinely work towards remediating the underlying causes of soil decline and poor plant health. After 70 odd years of gradual decline, many soil managers have realised that optimal soil and plant health is not just a question of chemicals and artificial fertilizers - optimal plant health is governed by the efficiency which plants can convert sunlight into sugars and carbohydrates, and extract nutrients and moisture from the soil - tasks which work best when the appropriate balance of both minerals and beneficial microbes are present in the soil. Achieving a better balance at the soil/plant interface has far-reaching benefits in terms of reducing the pressure from disease and insect pests - benefits which are the result of building resilience and adaptability in both the soil and plants. Taking a balancing approach is more strategic, and in stark contrast to the chemical approach where the majority of chemical applications occur in a reactionary fashion doing little more than treating the symptoms of a poorly balanced soil - and doing precious little about long term correction by addressing the cause of the problem. A well balanced soil has long term economic and environmental benefit, because by reducing the incidence of pests and disease we also reduce the need for chemical inputs.
