Triathlon relay, fitness racing and swimrun have become team sports with no way to find a team. A triathlon relay needs three — swim, bike, run. A fitness racing relay needs four. Doubles needs two. Swimrun is raced exclusively in pairs: tethered together, ten metres apart, finish together or not at all. None of them start without teammates. In October 2025, World Triathlon Congress adopted two new disciplines — Fitness Racing and Swimrun — with 112 national federations in the room. Both passed by overwhelming majority. Neither works without a team. Meanwhile, two thirds of the published race schedule at a major fitness racing event is doubles and relay. There is no central way to find one. Athletes rely on a Facebook feed that buries the post in an hour, a club noticeboard, and luck. A single dropout three weeks out ends a race booked and paid for a year in advance. And the largest group is the one nobody counts: people who would race, but have no network, and won't start alone. Team formats are the on-ramp to these sports — and the on-ramp is broken. Sodu is a marketplace. Captains post the slot they need filled. Athletes browse and apply. Teams form, and then persist — because the team is the durable thing, not the match. For gyms, clubs and event organisers: we are building the participation layer for sports that only grow when people can find each other. Australia first. The mechanic travels.
