Society of Singers (SOS) mission is to improve, preserve and maintain the personal dignity and quality of life of professional singers, nationwide, by providing a wide range of resources and opportunities in order to conserve their livelihood and continue with their craft, while also offering ongoing education to further enhance their ability to prosper and thrive. We provide assistance to those in the background, often unknown, but no less passionate singers in our industry as we have for over 30 years. SOS provides a safety net for singers, many of whom are facing chronic illness and disability or extreme and unexpected emergencies. Comprehensive services include free counseling, case management, referrals, financial grants and secondary career assistance. Funds are raised through monthly benefits by singer/songwriters locally and an annual fundraising event. Generous donations from philanthropic partners include the Elton John Charitable Foundation, the Herb Alpert Foundation and the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation. SOS is also aligned with a network of entertainment guilds and unions that include MusiCares, the Actors Fund and other benevolent organizations that allow us to expand our outreach and maximize financial opportunities for artists in crisis. Contributions from annual supporters, global donors, singers and non-singers alike, plus fundraising efforts, have enabled SOS to provide over $5 million in support services to so many who have had nowhere else to turn. With the changes in today's music business, the less structured session production and the questionable financial benefits from streaming, dollars that in past years were there to provide a reasonable living for working singers have disappeared, but their needs are raw and they are real. SOS is a unique niche charity that deals directly with the immediate needs of singers to keep them on their feet - those who most often have no benefits and limited resources.
